Seven
Fire teams and five Explorer Posts gathered on Saturday, August 4, for a
day of competition and camaraderie. The
9th Annual Fire and Rescue Challenge took place at
Chilhowee
Park
in
Knoxville
,
Tennessee
and offered a chance for area fire and explorer teams to test their skills
against one another.
The
day was kicked off with a parade of emergency vehicles entering
Chilhowee
Park
and was followed by a welcome from former Knoxville Fire Chief Ed Cureton.
Later in the day, UT Lifestar made a visit to the event and offered
tours of the emergency helicopter to the teams and community members in
attendance.
The
events for the day included a tangled hose event, the fire truck pull, the
fire Maze, the endurance challenge and mystery events for both fire and
explorer teams. After a long
day of competition, the winners were announced at a banquet for the teams.
The Alcoa Fire Department finished first in the overall Fire
category, while the Morristown Explorer Post took home the top spot for
the Explorer division.
This
event directly benefits Goodwill Industries-Knoxville, Inc.’s mission of
providing vocational training and employment opportunities for individuals
with barriers to employment in
Knoxville
and surrounding communities. In 2006, Goodwill Industries-Knoxville, Inc.
served 2,026 individuals, placed over 45 into competitive employment and
experienced 421 positive program closures.
